VI EcoTours – Honeymoon Beach

Honeymoon Beach

Snorkelers find sea turtles at Honeymoon Beach at Caneel Bay in the VI National Park.

This palm fringed sandy beach offers space to spread out and enjoy the soft sand and the crystal clear waters.

Honeymoon Beach is the closest beach to Cruz Bay. It is a short taxi ride to Caneel Bay  where you then walk an additional 8 minutes to the Honeymoon Beach. Hikers have two access points: first is a one mile walk along the Lind Point Trail which begins in Cruz Bay at the VI National Park Visitor Center, and the other is a steeper and shorter trail from the top of the Lind Point trail at the entrance to the Biosphere Reserve Offices. Sail boats also occasionally hook up to a mooring off the shore to allow their guests to snorkel the colorful reefs on both ends of the beach.

Wildlife abounds at Honeymoon Beach on St John. Guests love photographing the gentle wild donkeys, a cackle of chickens, rare mongoose, occasional iguana and the shy white tailed deer.

Hungry Guests often order their freshly grilled Panini from the Canella’s Cafe at Caneel Bay when they pass through the Cafe on the way to the beach, or they place their order with the beach attendant at the Hut and their food is delivered to the Beach. Canella’s favorite treat is homemade Gelatto Ice Cream.

Virgin Islands Ecotours runs the only concession there, a Watersports Center, The Honeymoon Hut at Honeymoon Beach, St John. From this location, they launch three award winning tours: the Caneel Bay Kayak, Hike & Snorkel Adventure 3 hours; the Henley Cay Kayak & Snorkel Adventure (3 hours); and the Best of Caneel Bay & Henley Cay kayak, Hike & Snorkel Adventures (5 hours with picnic lunch).

The Honeymoon Beach Day Pass is a package that can be reserved in advance which permits the all day use of the following items including: snorkel gear (mask, snorkel, fins & life jacket), pool float, lounge chair, stand up paddle board, kayak, locker with lock, hammock, picnic tables with umbrellas and a restroom facility. The day pass can be reserved online or at the hut on the day of the beach visit for $49 per adult and $10 per child.

The Hut is a small gift shop that offers T-shirts, cold drinks, gelato ice cream, and beach souvenirs. Sand art is a favorite art projects area where guests can make their own sand art to bring home with them.
