History & Culture

There is no better way to experience a place than to immerse yourself in the culture. Whether that means trying new foods or joining in local celebrations, you will create a lifetime of memories! Islanders are always ready to welcome visitors and share everything they love about the Caribbean! With a unique blend of African, European, and North and South American culture and heritage, there are endless things to see and learn about. Each island regularly holds fun activities for tourists and locals alike, so remember to ask your concierge or front desk attendant whether anything special is going on during your visit!

One of the most popular cultural events in the Caribbean is Carnival. In the U.S. Virgin Islands, each island holds Carnival, - St. Croix in January, St. Thomas in April and St. John in July – and every celebration is as unique as its island host. Sample delectable local treats at the Food Fair, watch troupes in colorful costumes lead a parade through town, dance with your friends during J’ouvert, and find unique souvenirs at local vendor stands. This is a celebration you won’t want to miss!

Go to St. Croix and experience over 250 years of Cruzan Rum, or visit Point Udall, the easternmost point (by travel) in the United States. Tour centuries-old forts, climb the 99 steps built by the Danish, see the historic Government House, and visit the Beracha Veshalom Vegmiluth Hasidim Synagogue, the second-oldest synagogue in the United States, on St. Thomas. Travel back in time as you hike St. John’s Reef Bay Trail to see the petroglyphs created by early Arawak Indians, and visit the beautifully preserved Annaberg Sugar Plantation Ruins. No matter what you choose, we guarantee you’ll leave the territory with extensive Caribbean knowledge and memories to last forever!
