Tips

Flights to St. Thomas & St. Croix: Major international airports in St. Thomas and St. Croix make getting to the USVI easy! There are daily non-stop flights from major east-coast airports which make connections easy from almost anywhere. There are also frequent direct flights from other Caribbean islands and connecting flights from Puerto Rico which serves as a hub for North American, European and South American airlines.

For the best connection from your local airport – check flight schedules from American Airlines, Delta Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways JetBlue or Spirit Airlines. Intra-Caribbean flights are offered by Air St. Thomas, Bohlke International Airways, Cape Air, LIAT Airlines and Seaborne Airlines (seaplane) from destinations throughout the Caribbean.

Ferry to St. John: For travel to St. John, you will have to fly into St. Thomas and then take a taxi to downtown Charlotte Amalie or Red Hook for the short boat ride to Cruz Bay. Don’t worry about schedules – just let your taxi driver know that you are going to St. John and the driver will bring you to the next available boat.

Customs & Immigration: When you arrive on a flight that originates in the US – there are no arrival formalities – just claim your luggage and head for your hotel or resort! When you leave the US Virgin Islands for a US Airport, you’ll go through customs and immigration here in the US Virgin Islands – making your arrival to your home airport much easier. You’ll need an original birth certificate plus two forms of photo ID (check with your airline for valid forms of identification).

For international airline arrivals you will have to show appropriate documents and obtain all necessary visas prior to boarding your flight for the US Virgin Islands. Check with your arrival airline for current visa requirements – or contact the US Citizenship and Immigration website at www.uscis.gov.

If you are arriving by ferry from The British Virgin Islands – you’ll clear customs and immigration in Cruz Bay, St. John for boats to Red Hook or at the dock in downtown Charlotte Amalie for boats traveling directly to St. Thomas.

Getting Around: Once you arrive in the US Virgin Islands you’ll have no problem getting around each island or visiting all the Virgin Islands. See our section on Getting Around the US Virgin Islands for information on car rentals, taxis and inter-island ferries.
